Volleyball Recap: Merrillville Pirates vs. La Porte Slicers
Merrillville lost against La Porte back in September of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Merrillville Pirates fell just short of the La Porte Slicers by a score of 3-2. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Merrillville took La Porte into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-16, 25-21, 25-27, 15-10.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isabella Altieri, who had 21 digs. Altieri is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had four or more in the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Porte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shayla Sorg, who had 19 digs and four aces. The dominant performance gave her a new career- in aces. Another player making a difference was Emma Hull, who had 16 digs and two aces.
Merrillville's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for La Porte, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merrillville is on the road again on Thursday to play Lake Central at 5:00 p.m. As for La Porte, they will challenge Valparaiso at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valparaiso is coming into the game with three straight defeats at home, meaning La Porte will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
