Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Academy Bobcats vs. Flint River Academy Wildcats

After both having extra time off, the St. Mary's Academy Bobcats and the Flint River Academy Wildcats will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-29, which was the final score in St. Mary's Academy's tilt against Dominion Christian last Saturday.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Flint River Academy's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell 50-42 to Westwood.

St. Mary's Academy will have to contain D. J. Baums as he made an impact in Flint River Academy's last game. He dropped a double-double on 17 points and 21 rebounds. Baums has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Riner, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Flint River Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 19 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Flint River Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for St. Mary's Academy, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Everything came up roses for St. Mary's Academy against Flint River Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 56-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Mary's Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
