Basketball Recap: Conestoga Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ayla Garrett and Davida Garrett

Conestoga was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 59-38 to the Douglas County West Falcon. The Cougars were down 46-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Conestoga's loss came despite strong showings from Davida Garrett and Ayla Garrett. Davida dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Ayla dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Davida a new career-high in boards.

Even though they lost, Conestoga smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Ava Grimm was nothing short of spectacular for Douglas County West: she shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Grimm is becoming a predictor of Douglas County West's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 7-11 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Zach, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Conestoga's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Douglas County West, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Conestoga will square off against Syracuse at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Douglas County West, they will face off against Platteview at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
