Soccer Game Preview: Elk Grove vs. Laguna Creek

The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will square off against the Laguna Creek Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Elk Grove is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Sheldon on Monday. Elk Grove took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sheldon. While losing is never fun, the Thundering Herd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 676th, while the Huskies are ranked 161st).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laguna Creek). They never let Cosumnes Oaks onto the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Elk Grove's loss dropped their record down to 4-9-4. As for Laguna Creek, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11.

Elk Grove beat Laguna Creek 3-1 when the teams last played on January 10th. Will Elk Grove repeat their success, or does Laguna Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
