Basketball Recap: Willapa Valley Takes a Loss

If Willapa Valley was feeling good fresh off their 60-25 takedown of North Beach last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Willapa Valley Vikings were dealt a 61-15 defeat at the hands of the Raymond/South Bend Ravens on Monday. The match marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Willapa Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Tylar Keeton and Lauren Matlock. Keeton posted eight points and nine rebounds, while Matlock put up a point.

Even though they lost, Willapa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Raymond/South Bend to victory, but perhaps none more so than Megan Kongbouakhay, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. That's the most steals Kongbouakhay has posted since back in December of 2023. Kassie Koski was another key player, going 9 of 19 on her way to 19 points and seven steals.

Willapa Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Raymond/South Bend, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willapa Valley will challenge Taholah at 5:45 p.m. on January 7th. As for Raymond/South Bend, they will face off against Mossyrock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
