Softball Game Preview: Concordia Fighting Orioles vs. Tipton Cardinals

The Concordia Fighting Orioles will head out to face off against the Tipton Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Concordia has four straight wins, Tipton has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Concordia's victory against Crest Ridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Fighting Orioles had just enough and edged out the Cougars 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Fighting Orioles have posted against the Cougars since April 6, 2023.

Concordia's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addison Roepe, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Concordia hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Tipton might've scored the first runs on Monday, but it was Green Ridge who claimed the real prize. The Cardinals took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

Anna Crane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Myra Haas made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Raylyn Wilfong also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Tipton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Concordia, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.

Concordia took their victory against Tipton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Orioles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
