Basketball Recap: Andrew Lopez Key Part of Team Effort in Voyagers Win

MAST Charter II lost to Maritime Academy Charter back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Voyagers came out on top against the Seadogs by a score of 55-44.

MAST Charter II's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Lopez, who posted 15 points and five boards. Those 15 points gave Lopez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Twyman, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Loss or not, Maritime Academy Charter got some senior leadership from Mekhi Ford and Andy Figueroa. Ford shot 50% from the field on his way to 17 points along with five boards and five steals, while Figueroa had 14 points and six assists. Ford has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jeremy Gonzalez was another key player, putting up three points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

MAST Charter II's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. MAST Charter II will challenge Philadelphia Academy Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maritime Academy Charter, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Thomas A. Edison at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
