Baseball Recap: Independence Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Independence put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Chavez Titans. The Falcons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans, too.

Brandon Gutierrez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, David Baralt Portillo was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Guzman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Independence's record is now 3-0. As for Chavez, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will take on South at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Chavez, they will challenge Mira Monte on March 11th.
