Basketball Game Preview: Nogales Nobles vs. Sierra Vista Dons

Nogales is 2-8 against Sierra Vista since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Nogales Nobles will face off against the Sierra Vista Dons at 6:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Nogales ended up a good deal behind Duarte and lost 65-47. The Nobles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Sierra Vista came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Aztecs with a sharp 56-36 victory. The Dons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Nogales better focus on containing Aaron Buna and Dolan Dease as the pair were huge in Sierra Vista's win. Buna went 7 for 13 en route to 20 points, while Dease went 5 of 12 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds. Dease is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Aguayo, who posted seven points.

Sierra Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Sierra Vista's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 4-19.

Nogales came up short against Sierra Vista when the teams last played on January 14th, falling 57-48. Can Nogales avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
