Baseball Game Preview: Sylmar Spartans vs. Poly Parrots

For the second straight game, Sylmar will face off against Poly. The Spartans will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Parrots at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Sylmar has won 20 straight at home dating back to last season, while Poly won eight straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Sylmar's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They skirted past Poly 2-0. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Parrots on their field since February 25, 2015.

The result came thanks to Alex Martinez's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luis Mendoza, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Timothy Sepulveda was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Sylmar is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Poly, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 17-6 record.
