Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while the Spartans are ranked 734th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jefferson Area pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points over those games. As for Grand Valley, their win bumped their record up to 19-2.

Everything came up roses for Jefferson Area against Grand Valley when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 70-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson Area since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
