Wasatch Academy is 0-4 against Carbon since March of 2024 but things could change on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. Carbon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wasatch Academy, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, Wasatch Academy made easy work of Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams and carried off a 3-0 victory. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
While Wasatch Academy won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-19, 25-22.
Wasatch Academy found their leader in sophomore Carlos Lopez, who had 17 digs.
Meanwhile, Carbon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of North Sanpete.
Carbon took North Sanpete into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 15-11.
Wasatch Academy will need to focus on slowing down Grant Mathis, one of several Carbon players who made an impact when they last played. He had 22 assists and four digs.
Carbon's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Wasatch Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Wasatch Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Carbon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wasatch Academy might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Carbon when the teams last played back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
