Softball Game Preview: Notre Dame Prep Saints vs. Mountain Pointe Pride

The Notre Dame Prep Saints are taking a road trip to face off against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Notre Dame Prep and six for Mountain Pointe.

Last Thursday, Notre Dame Prep came up short against Desert Mountain and fell 7-4.

Marley Caldwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sammy Swords was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Sophia Perez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Mountain Pointe suffered their closest defeat since March 12th on Friday. They fell just short of Maricopa by a score of 7-5.

Mountain Pointe saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samallia Perez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sienna Kalanish was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Notre Dame Prep suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 10-6. As for Mountain Pointe, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12-1.
