Basketball Game Preview: Berry Cardinals vs. Olympic Trojans

The Berry Cardinals will challenge the Olympic Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Tuesday, Berry came up short against Myers Park and fell 39-26. The Cardinals have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Annabella Hall, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Parker Breelove, who earned eight points.

Meanwhile, Olympic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against Ardrey Kell, falling 58-27. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Knights are ranked 127th).

Berry will have to keep a close watch on Jasmyn Ashbourne and Chaya James, a pair of players who had a big impact on Olympic's prior game. Ashbourne went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points, while James had four points and 13 rebounds. What's more, Ashbourne also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

Berry's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Olympic, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.
