Softball Recap: Hilltop's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Hilltop had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt North Central on Tuesday. The Cadets blew past the Eagles 11-0. The result was nothing new for the Cadets, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kelsy Connolly was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Libbie Baker was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kenley Routt, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Hilltop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Central only posted an OBP of .111.

The victory keeps Hilltop at an undefeated 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.8 runs this season. As for North Central, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Hilltop will venture away from home to challenge Ayersville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Central, they will host Tinora at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
