Football Recap: Ray Bearcats vs. Valley Union Blue Devils
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ray can now relate to. They took a 40-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Union Blue Devils on Friday. The Bearcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Devils earlier this season, when they won 36-34.
Despite the loss, Ray saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jesse James rushed for 101 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, and also threw for 152 yards on 13 of 24 attempts. James' longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Seth Wade, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one score.
It was another big night for Myles Richardson, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and one TD for Valley Union. Richardson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 112 rushing yards. Yahir Luna was another key rusher, rushing for 112 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries.
Ray is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4. As for Valley Union, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
As of now, neither Ray nor the Blue Devils have any future games scheduled.
