Basketball Game Preview: Grand Ledge Comets vs. East Lansing Trojans

Grand Ledge is 1-9 against East Lansing since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Grand Ledge Comets will head out on the road to take on the East Lansing Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Grand Ledge made off with a 54-53 victory over Everett.

Meanwhile, East Lansing had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 78-67.

Grand Ledge better keep an eye on Cameron Hutson. He was instrumental in East Lansing's win, going 10 of 21 en route to 30 points and eight rebounds. Those 30 points gave Hutson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kelvin (KJ) Torbert, Jr., who went 7 for 15 on his way to 19 points and five boards.

East Lansing smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

East Lansing pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Grand Ledge, their record now sits at 4-6.

Things could have been worse for Grand Ledge, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-46 loss to East Lansing when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Grand Ledge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
