Uintah is 1-6 against Provo since September of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Utes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Tuesday, Uintah didn't have quite enough to beat Timpanogos and fell 3-2.
Uintah actually scored more points across those five sets (108-105), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-21, 16-25, 24-26, 15-13.
Meanwhile, Provo didn't have quite enough to beat Mountain View on Tuesday and fell 3-2.
Provo wouldn't go down easily and took Mountain View into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 15-25, 22-25, 15-10.
Uintah will have to keep a close watch on Lexi Carter and Nevaeh Magalei, a pair of players who had a big impact on Provo's prior game. Carter had 14 digs, while Magalei had 25 kills and 17 digs. Magalei is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last 50 games she's played dating back to last season.
Provo's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Uintah, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Uintah has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Provo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
