Volleyball Recap: Van Wert Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Van Wert unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Paulding Panthers on Monday, falling 3-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 25-8, 25-11, 25-9.

Libby Jones paced Van Wert's offense, picking up three kills. Jones got some help from Brissia Ickes and her five assists.

Estie Pease was nothing short of spectacular for Paulding: she had ten aces and three digs. Those ten aces gave Pease a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tori Schlatter, who had 11 digs and three aces.

Van Wert didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Lincolnview on the 19th. As for Paulding, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 defeat against Crestview on the 19th.
