Football Recap: Decatur Central Falls to Avon in First Game of Season

Decatur Central kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Avon Orioles by a score of 30-28. Despite 60 more yards than the Orioles, the Hawks couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Decatur Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bo Polston, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Hunter Harvey, who rushed for 37 yards and one score. Harvey also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack, making one tackle, and defending one pass.

Avon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shawn Curry, who picked up 103 receiving yards and three TDs. Curry got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 73 yards. Jace Cameron was another key player, throwing for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Decatur Central will take on New Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Avon, they will square off against Ben Davis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
