Softball Recap: West Cabarrus Wolverines vs. Hickory Ridge Bulls
After flying high against Cox Mill on Friday, West Cabarrus came back down to earth. The Wolverines came up short against the Hickory Ridge Bulls on Tuesday, falling 16-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.
West Cabarrus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ilex Collins, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Cadyn Ready was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
West Cabarrus has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Hickory Ridge, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5.
Looking ahead, West Cabarrus will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology at 5:00 p.m. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.31 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hickory Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against South Iredell at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
