Baseball Recap: Old Bridge Triumphs

Old Bridge hadn't done well against St. Peter's Prep recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Marauders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 10th.

The team relied heavily on Brody Nugent, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Old Bridge: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Justin Hascup, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Old Bridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Peter's Prep, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7-1.

Coming up, Old Bridge will challenge St. Augustine Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hermits' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. St. Peter's Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
