Baseball Recap: Catholic Central Hilltoppers vs. Wilmot Panthers
Catholic Central had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it five. They lost 13-3 to the Wilmot Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hilltoppers of the 12-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
As for Wilmot, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Wilmot's part, Mason Lang looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Lang a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Preston Jones, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nolan Sanew, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catholic Central will take on Dominican at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wilmot, they will head out to challenge Burlington at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
