Softball Recap: Mcnairy Central Wins Going Away Against Jackson South Side

While McNairy Central put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Jackson South Side. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 21-0 win. The Bobcats have beaten the Hawks the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hawks has come to flipping the script.

Bailee Shelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Callie Finlayson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlee Shelton, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.

McNairy Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 26 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive games.

McNairy Central's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Jackson South Side, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Looking ahead, McNairy Central will square off against Chester County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jackson South Side, they will challenge University School of Jackson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
