Basketball Recap: Coleman Comets vs. Merrill Vandals

The Coleman Comets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. Their rough 35-15 defeat to Merrill might stick with them for a while. Coleman has struggled against the Vandals recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Coleman's loss came despite strong showings from Nevaeh Chaffee and Nora Brownlee. Chaffee scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Brownlee scored no points. Chaffee is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Coleman dropped their record down to 2-11 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.5 points per game. As for Merrill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coleman will take on the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Merrill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
