Softball Recap: Malden Drops Highest Score of Season Against Campbell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Malden). They were the clear victors by a 22-5 margin over the Campbell Camels on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Green Wave, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sarah Nealey looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last four games.

At the plate, Jaylee Brown was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Ellison, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Malden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Malden is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Campbell, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Malden didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-2 victory against East Prairie on the 12th. Campbell has also already played their next game (against Richland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
