Grayson takes top spot over Lowndes in new Georgia Top 25.

While Grayson (Loganville) overtaking Lowndes (Valdosta) at the top was big news, the most eye-opening development of this week's Georgia Top 25 football rankings came near the bottom.

McEachern (Powder Springs), following a 49-28 win over defending state champion and previous No. 21 Marietta, and Marist (Atlanta) each moved up 14 spots to No. 17 and 18, respectively.

Marist scored an impressive 23-3 win over Woodward Academy, shutting out the War Eagles the final three quarters.

In addition, Veterans (Kathleen) improved to 3-0 with a 30-6 victory over Jones County, which vaulted the Warhawks from No. 31 to No. 20.

At the top, Grayson improved to 3-0 with the biggest win over the week, a 28-7 triumph over visiting Collins Hill, which came in No. 7. After a scoreless first half, each team scored touchdowns in the third quarter, before the Rams rattled off 21 straight points. Phil Mafah, a Clemson commit, was the star in this one with 23 carries for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

Lowndes dropped one spot to No. 2 despite a 37-17 victory over Oakleaf. Justin Lee rushed for 97 yards and three scores and Chase Blecher caught a 91-yard touchdown pass from Jacurri Brown for the winners.
