Central has gone 8-2 against Palo Verde Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Imperial, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-2 on Friday.
Angel Carrillo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Acuna, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Palo Verde Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Brawley on Friday. The Yellow Jackets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 10-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Yellow Jackets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Dominic Rios, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Palo Verde Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Palo Verde Valley, their win bumped their record up to 13-11-1.
Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Palo Verde Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Central continue to outrun the ball?
Central came up short against Palo Verde Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
