Basketball Recap: Carroll Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Joelle Mathews and Joanna Mathews

Carroll Christian was the 50-46 winner over King's Christian Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Carroll Christian took a 54-40 bruising from the King's Christian Academy Eagles on Tuesday.

Carroll Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Joanna Mathews and Joelle Mathews. Joanna almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine steals, while Joelle dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Joanna's evening made it ten games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points.

King's Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ari Smith led the charge by on her way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Alexa Buckley was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took to post 11 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Carroll Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for King's Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Carroll Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Greater Grace Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something King's Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
