Preview: Palo Duro vs. Amarillo
The Palo Duro Dons will be playing at home against the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.
Palo Duro has not lost a match since January 6th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Tascosa and snuck past 2-1. Given Palo Duro's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Tascosa is ranked 549th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palo Duro was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Ram Htoo and
Jaime Martinez, who scored both of Palo Duro's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 29 so far this season.
Meanwhile, Amarillo kept a clean sheet against Tascosa on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Rebels out 1-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Amarillo.
Palo Duro's victory bumped their record up to 13-1-2. As for Amarillo, they pushed their record up to 8-4-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Palo Duro was able to grind out a solid win over Amarillo in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 3-1. Will Palo Duro repeat their success, or does Amarillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
