Softball Recap: Alta falls despite big games from Lavern Toelupe and Addyson Brownell

Softball Recap: Alta Hawks vs. Roy Royals

After flying high against East last Thursday, Alta came back down to earth. The Alta Hawks lost 21-7 to the Roy Royals on Monday.

Addyson Brownell and Lavern Toelupe stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brownell scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Toelupe scored two runs while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Richards, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Alta was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with six doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roy only hit three.

On Roy's side, Izabel Cline made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Cline was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Aviee Gomez was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Quincy Johnson, who went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Alta now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Roy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-15 record this season.

Alta has the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome Granger at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Roy, they will head out on the road to take on Bountiful at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bountiful is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
