Softball Recap: Sonora Wildcats vs. Hilmar Yellowjackets

After a string of five wins, Sonora's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Hilmar Yellowjackets by a score of 4-2.

KODIE TOWNSEND spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts every time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, CHEYENNE MATYSHOCK made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with a home run.

On Hilmar's side, they got a great performance from Danica Campbell as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (she also only allowed one walk).

On the hitting side, Destiny Denys was excellent, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Camryn Mattos, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

Sonora's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for Hilmar, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Sonora will look to defend their home field on Monday against Bret Harte at 5:30 p.m. Sonora is facing Bret Harte at the right time seeing as Bret Harte is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
