Softball Recap: Independence Has No Trouble Against Bakersfield

Independence never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bakersfield on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Drillers with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Emilia Culbertson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Maylea Lutu, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Independence back to even at 10-10. As for Bakersfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Independence beat Bakersfield by a score of 12-2 on Friday.
