The Knox Redskins will take on the Griffith Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Knox came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 18-10 to Valparaiso. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Redskins have suffered since April 18, 2024.
Addison Sponaugle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karleigh Friedrich, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Griffith strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Wheeler. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Bearcats on their field since May 1, 2018.
Cheyanne Fant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Natalie Vianello and Brylie Bridges did most of the damage at the plate: Vianello went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Bridges went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Vianello a new career-high. Laney Poppa was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Griffith kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Griffith's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Knox, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Knox hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Griffith struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
