Soccer Game Preview: New Kent vs. Smithfield

New Kent is 0-8 against Smithfield since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Packers at 7:00 p.m. New Kent has given up an average of 3.4 goals per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

New Kent is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Jamestown, falling 9-1. While losing is never fun, New Kent can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 176th, while Jamestown are ranked second).

New Kent's goal came courtesy of Grayson Yates, who's now up to eight this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Smithfield's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. Neither they nor Tabb could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The result kept Smithfield happy, as they haven't lost a game since April 3rd.

Smithfield's draw gives them a new season record of 7-2-1. As for New Kent, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-2.

New Kent suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Smithfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
