Baseball Recap: Benton Gets the Win

Benton won the last time they faced Trico and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Rangers came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rangers.

Hunter Irvin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Grant Owens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Benton is undefeated when Owens posts two or more runs, but 3-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyle Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Benton's victory bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Trico, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-12 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton will square off against Marion at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Trico, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carterville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
