It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Northwest had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 35-24 victory over the Southeast Golden Buffalo. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Golden Buffalo are ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Augie Fast, who rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Jaylen Mason was another key player, rushing for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Northwest was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 279 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 239 rushing yards in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Southeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mack O'Bar threw for 149 yards and four touchdowns. O'Bar is becoming a predictor of Southeast's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't).

Northwest's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.6 points per game. As for Southeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Northwest has already played their next game, a 62-28 victory against South on the 8th. Southeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
