Basketball Recap: Durango Comes Up Short

Durango lost against Del Sol back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Durango Trailblazers took a blow against the Del Sol Dragons, falling 55-25. The Trailblazers were down 42-17 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Defeat or not, Durango got some senior leadership from Amia McKinney and Amarie Riley. McKinney posted eight points in addition to eight boards and four blocks, while Riley put up nine points and six rebounds. That was a full 36% of Durango's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Del Sol to victory were Ricana Taylor and Ge Ge Pickens. Taylor shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Pickens dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards. Pickens has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Morgan White was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Durango has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season. As for Del Sol, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-7.

Durango didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-34 loss against Desert Oasis on the 7th. As for Del Sol, they have also already played their next game, a 54-45 defeat against Somerset Academy Losee on the 7th.
