Softball Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Bellevue Tigers
Newport hasn't had much luck against Bellevue recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Newport has given up an average of 19.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Newport came up short against Holmes on Wednesday, falling 16-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Bellevue hadn't done well against Dayton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Tigers walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Greendevils. The win was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.
Bellevue got a massive performance out of Paulina Long, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Long a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Dowell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bellevue kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Bellevue's record now sits at 7-12. As for Newport, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
Newport might still be hurting after the 24-0 defeat they got from Bellevue in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
