Softball Game Preview: Okeechobee Brahmans vs. Centennial Eagles

The Okeechobee Brahmans will face off against the Centennial Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Okeechobee has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Centennial will arrive with three straight wins.

Okeechobee lost 13-4 to Merritt Island on Friday.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Centennial and Martin County, and Centennial kept the tradition alive. The Eagles put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-2 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Brereton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jaelyn Cooke was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Myrna Pratt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County only posted a batting average of .154.

Centennial's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Okeechobee, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
