Softball Recap: Rosholt Comes Up Short

Rosholt had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it five. They came up short against the Pittsville Panthers, falling 12-3. The game snapped a strange streak: the last seven times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Rosholt saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Zblewski, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Ruby Calhoun also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Pittsville, the victory snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 4-11 record. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Pittsville's side, Brooke Grossman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts Grossman has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Pittsville got a massive performance out of Halle Friday, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most runs Friday has posted since back in April. Lana Vollert was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Rosholt will welcome Manawa at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pittsville, they will head out on the road to square off against Tri-County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
