Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Comes Up Short

Wheat Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 52-9 loss at the hands of the Greeley West Spartans. The Farmers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-5.

Leading Greeley West to victory were Paige Rupple and Valeria Calzada. Rupple posted 13 points and three blocks, while Calzada went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points and three steals. Calzada has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nairis Benitez, who earned four points and three steals.

Wheat Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Greeley West, their victory ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheat Ridge has already played their next matchup (against Evergreen), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Greeley West will square off against Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeley West is facing Brighton at the right time seeing as Brighton is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
