Basketball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Beats Del Norte for Their 12th Straight Victory

Albuquerque Academy had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 62-45 win over the Del Norte Knights. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Knights are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Albuquerque Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addie Spratley, who posted 15 points. What's more, Spratley also posted a 33% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Melissa Purcella was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Albuquerque Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only three assists.

Del Norte's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cristal Hernandez Cordero, who put up 13 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samantha Mitchell, who earned six points.

Albuquerque Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points over those games. As for Del Norte, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-16.

Albuquerque Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-44 win against Bernalillo on the 19th. As for Del Norte, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-38 victory against Valley on the 18th.
