Softball Game Preview: Santa Ana Valley Falcons vs. Loara Saxons

Santa Ana Valley is a perfect 3-0 against Loara since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Saxons at 3:00 p.m. Santa Ana Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.3 runs per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Santa Ana Valley challenged Estancia on Friday. The Falcons never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Valeria Gomez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, six RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janelle Coronel, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Santa Ana Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.

Meanwhile, Loara had just enough and edged out La Quinta 7-5 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saxons.

Santa Ana Valley's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Loara, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Santa Ana Valley took their victory against Loara in their previous matchup on April 4th by a conclusive 10-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
