Baseball Recap: Hoggard Comes Up Short

Hoggard lost against Ashley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Hoggard took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ashley. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hoggard got a good showing from Parker Gosselink, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Gosselink a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Hoggard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Jeffrey, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Jeffrey launched this season.

Hoggard's record now sits at 5-7. As for Ashley, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Hoggard will head out on the road to challenge Topsail at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Topsail will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Hoggard surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ashley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilmington Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
