Volleyball Recap: Tough Loss for Irvin

Irvin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Andress Eagles, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rockets of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on September 2, 2025.

While Irvin was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Andress' winning margin in every set. The final set scores came out to 25-8, 25-16, 25-17.

Leading Andress to victory were Allie Mendiola and Jazmyne Grimes. Mendiola had 22 assists, five digs, and four aces, while Grimes had 19 digs, nine kills, and two aces. Another player making a difference was Delilah Salas, who had 10 digs and two aces.

Irvin has now lost eight of their last nine games on the road. That leaves them at a 2-9 record this season. As for Andress, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Irvin is set to take on their familiar foe Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Andress will square off against their in-conference opponent Bowie at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
