Basketball Recap: Santana Sabus and Sammi Madden secure win for Ralston Valley

Basketball Recap: Ralston Valley Mustangs vs. Columbine Rebels

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Valor Christian, the Ralston Valley Mustangs were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They secured a 64-59 W over Columbine. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Ralston Valley was led to victory by Santana Sabus and Sammi Madden. Sabus scored 20 points along with two steals, while Madden scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Sabus hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Kline, who scored eight points.

Columbine's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Allison, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Mason Abraham was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.

Ralston Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Columbine, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ralston Valley will square off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Arvada West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday. As for Columbine, they will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lakewood has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
