Baseball Recap: Black River Comes Up Short

Black River extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-10 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Midview Middies. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly six runs.

As for Midview, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-14 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.7 runs.

For Midview's part, Daniel Melendez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Melendez a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Jacob Armburger looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.

Back at the plate, Midview let Cason Pelko and Kaiden Vogelpohl run wild. Pelko went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Vogelpohl went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Harper, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Black River will face off against Loudonville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Midview, they will host Olmsted Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.15 runs per game on average), something the Middies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
