Softball Recap: Astoria/VIT Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Astoria/VIT ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hartsburg-Emden Stags 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rebels as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

H Horwedel made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over eight innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, P Parker and L Hite did most of the damage at the plate: Parker went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Hite went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Parker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lainey Malott, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Astoria/VIT's victory bumped their record up to 6-18. As for Hartsburg-Emden, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

As of now, neither Astoria/VIT nor the Stags have any future games scheduled.
