Clever is 7-1 against Spokane since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Blue Jays will challenge the Owls at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Clever got the win against Hollister by a conclusive 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Blue Jays, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Mittag made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Izabel Hudak was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Bailey Gaulding also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Clever always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Spokane had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 7-5.
Like Clever, Spokane also got a great game from a two-way player: Karsyn Schrock. On the mound, she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Schrock was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lilly Carr was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addie Gimlim, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.
Clever is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Spokane, their record now sits at 5-6.
Clever took their win against Spokane in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Jays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
